Ernest Hovey Neves

(June 5, 1897 - Mar. 1, 1960)

The son of William and Olive Ann Hovey Neves, he was born in Millville and attended school here. As a young man, he worked in the logging mills at Baker, Oregon; and he later worked at the sugar factories in Logan and Cornish. He was a farmer and dairyman. He held many LDS Church positions and was a Counselor to Bishop Ernest R. Scott for nine years. He served as Town Marshal and Water Master; and he was a member of the Cache Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America. On December 23, 1903, he married ELVIRA GRAHAM in the Logan Temple. She was born January 29, 1885, in Millville, to Robert James and Mary Elizabeth Yeates Graham. Elvira died July 9, 1911, leaving Ernest with three children. On June 5, 1915, Ernest married MABEL JENSEN in the Logan Temple. She was the daughter of Nels Fritcluf and Harriet Maria Whitney; and she was born in Trenton, Utah, on August 30, 1892. She attended school in Trenton and at the Oneida Academy in Preston. She had lived at Preston and Trenton before moving to Millville. She was a loving mother to her stepchildren and grandchildren. She was active in Prirnary and Relief Society work for many years and had received special awards for her service. She died July 17, 1976, and is buried in Millville Cemetery. Ernest and Mabel had no children. Ernest and Elvira were the parents of: Mary Ione, James (Hildred Williamson), Ellis (Belva Winn) and Olive Ann.
