Orvil Lorenzo Thompson

Orvil Lorenzo Thompson, son of Orvil Browning and Emily Lydia Snyder Thompson was born Dec. 11, 1864, in Woods Cross, Davis County, Utah. His father was a farmer and cattle man, and Orvil was taught to do his share of the work, since he was the only son who lived to maturity. He served a mission to Scotland from 1885 to 1887. When he returned he was president of the YMMIA and in 1888 he married Susan Monroe in the Manti Temple. He was clerk of the Scipio Ward; president of the 111th Quorum of Seventies. In 1902 he was set apart as Bishop of the Scipio Ward and served until 1920. He served the Town as Justice of the Peace and became Superintendent of the Millard County Schools. He was post master of Scipio for twenty years, and served four terms as Representative from Millard County. He was set apart as President of the Millard Stake in 1912 and served until 1930, with John A. Beckstrand and Peter L. Brunson as his counselors.

Children of Orvil and Susan Monroe Thompson were: Jennie, Orvil H., Lillian, Rulan S., Roscoe B., Grant., Burton M., Edna, Alonzo W., and Fred Lyman .

Orvil Lorenzo Thompson died October 2, 1921. and is buried in the Scipio Cemetery.
