Charles A. Nye

Charles Nye was with his father and the company called by Brigham Young to settle southern Utah, and he helped to found the city of St. George. He later became one of Brigham Young's Indian scouts and escorted the prophet to outlying settlements. Charles made two down-and-back trips across the plains carrying Mormon immigrants, spent some time at sea, then in 1875 married Lucinda Bingham and lived in Huntsville, Utah. In 1878, Charles Nye was part of the first group to settle Ashley Valley, Uintah County, Utah (now Vernal, Utah). In 1884 he moved his family to Bowie Station, Arizona, and then to Pima, and in 1889 returned to Ashley Valley, where he died in the town of Vernal on 3 February 1918.
