Frances Alice Etherington

Frances Alice Etherington, daughter of Thomas Etherington and Sarah Wheeler, was born March 9, 1866, in Slaterville, Weber County, Utah. She was baptized July 25, 1875. She was the fifth child of twelve and had the following brothers and sisters: Elizabeth Ann, Sarah Jane, Mary Eliza, Susan Adelia, Frances Alice, Ellen Marie, Thomas Wheeler, Emily Edith, Laura May, Esther Caroline, George William and James Albert. She lived in Slaterville until 1869 then moved to West Weber with her parents to make her permanent home. She and three of her sisters would go up to the Monte Cristo area which is now known as Dairy Ridge, and spend the summer there. They herded and milked cows; made cheese and butter. Once a week their father would go up and get the cheese and butter and bring them down to be sold. The girls worked on the farm with their father throughout their growing years.

She met Edward Charlton while he was working for her father and married him November 26, 1884, in the Logan Temple. She was the mother of eight children and was a kind hearted neighbor. Her associations with everyone were of a very pleasant nature. She was a patient sufferer during her prolonged illness and died March 2, 1923, at West Weber and was buried in the West Weber Cemetery.
