Isabella McFarland

Isabella McFarland Hogge was born Sep 25, 1864 in West Weber, Weber County, Utah, a daughter of Archibald and Isabella Mitchell McFarland.

She was married to Joseph Hogge in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1881. To this union nine children were born: Archibald Hogge, born Sep 8, 1884; Isabell Ann Hogge, born Oct 9, 1886; Albert Roy Hogge, born Mar 25, 1889; Margaret Mabel Hogge, born Sep 21, 1891; Janet Mitchell Hogge, born Jan 16, 1894; Charles Roland Hogge, born Apr 12, 1896; Laura Leona Hogge, born Oct 23, 1898; William Hogge, born Mar 10, 1903; Marie Hogge, born Jan 13, 1908.

The couple built a home in West Weber soon after they were first married, and their children were all born and raised in this same home. This home still stands in West Weber, at 522 So. 4100 West; Bill and Leone Blanch lives in this home now (1976).

Joseph was a game warden, Road Supervisor and worked at farming most of his life.

Isabella was a faithful LDS Church Member and very good to her neighbors and friends She was active in Relief Society and Genealogy work, and in 1912 she was sustained as President of the West Weber Ward Primary, holding this position for three or four years.

She helped raise her oldest son, Archibald's family who lost his wife at child birth with the flu in 1918. Her name was Mary Ann Surrage Hogge; she was only 34 years old; Mary Ann Hogge left seven children, one girl and six boys. Their names were: Sarah Leona, born July 8, 1904; Ray Archibald Hogge, horn Oct 8, 1906; William Elmer Hogge, born Jan 13, 1909; Charles Darreld Hogge, born Aug 22, 1911; Howard Joseph Hogge, born Dec 13, 1913; Edward Hogge, born May 2, 1916; Norman Hogge, born Nov 30, 1918, who died a few days after birth and buried in his mother's arms.

While Isabella was living, she enjoyed the love and activity of having five generations around her. Her daughter, Isabell Hogge Buehler, mother of nine children is a life long resident of Ogden and her children had a total of over 100 years in the Ogden City Schools. Her oldest daughter Emma Buehler Taylor of Berkeley, California, her oldest daughter Joyce Taylor Thomson and her baby daughter, Kristine Joyce Thomson.

She had 33 grand-children, 67 great grand-children, and 13 great great grandchildren.

Joseph Archibald Hogge died in 1924 and Isabella Hogge died at the age of 91 years, Oct 31, 1955. They were both buried in the West Weber Cemetery.
