She left England at age sixteen with parents, three sisters and one brother, sailing on the ship "Ellen Marie" 17 Jan 1853. They arrived in New Orleans 16 Mar 1853. They traveled to St. Louis, Mo. 18 March and from there to Kanesville, Iowa, joining with the Cyrus H. Wheelock Wagon Train, leaving 3 Jun and arriving in Salt Lake City 16 Oct 1853. Moses Clawson was the missionary who brought the Gospel to Virtue Ann and her family. He traveled from England and across the plains with them. Virtue Ann was in Salt Lake City a short time when she married Charles Colebrook 4/7 Jan 1854. They had one son, Charles. This marriage ended in divorce. Virtue Ann was baptized 26 Mar 1854. Probably a rebaptism in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Preston King Lewis on 4 Jan 1857. On 7 Aug 1857 they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Endowment House. They made their home in Holladay, Utah and became parents of nine. She was asked to live the law of polygamy when Preston married Sarah Coleman 13 Sep 1869. They had thirteen children. When her son, Preston King Jr.'s, wife died of complications due to childbirth, he brought his family of four children to Holladay. Virtue helped all she could with the children. She made flannel shirts for the grandsons to wear to school. She taught the children how to darn their stockings. She cut a "Red Ridinghood" leather cloak up and made the uppers for twenty pairs of shoes. These were mostly childrens' shoes. They were taken to a shoemaker and sold for $0.75 a pair Virtue took in boarders for a time and took care of her mother-in-law, Duritha Trail Lewis until she died about 1878. Preston passed away 21 Jan 1913 in Heber City, Utah. Virtue was a widow for thirteen years, passing away at her home in Holladay 28 Jan 1926 at the age of ninety years.
