Lydia Ann Young Billings

Lydia Ann (or Anna) Young was born 24 Jan. 1858 in Provo, Utah, the daughter of Jacob Young and Lydia McCauslin Young. Lydia Ann and George Pierce Billings were married in the Manti Temple 27 Dec. 1878. She was a prominent and conscientious worker by her husband's side in all his undertakings. She was the first President of the YWMIA in Jensen, Utah. Lydia was the mother of seven children all grew to maturity and married except for the youngest, who died at age 26, unmarried. The children are:

Lydia died 5 Dec. 1928 in Provo, Utah. Her granddaughter, Winnie Ethlynn Bartlett Harmon, made this statement about her in a letter to her brother, June, who was serving a mission in England:

Feb. 4, 1929 ".... I wish you could have seen how beautiful Grandma looked in her temple clothes. They were just exactly like Mama's. I don't believe I have ever seen a couple as congenial and happy together as Grandpa and Grandma have been, and Grandpa certainly will be lonesome, but he held up well under the 1099 and had such faith. I am certainly thankful for that faith in the hereafter. It certainly lightens the load. There were some beautiful floral offerings, and everyone paid such high tribute to Grandma as a mother. One of the speakers said she was a queenly woman, and she certainly was. The services were so quiet and dignified and everything seemed so harmonious, just like the completion of something beautiful, till we all felt that Grandma had lived her span and was needed elsewhere .....
