Sarah Thorn was born in Alleghany, New York, 1836. As a child, the family moved from place to place because of the persecution they suffered by the hands of mobs. Her mother died and is buried in an unmarked grave along the trail to Utah. The family came to Utah with Joseph Thorn's Independent Company by wagon, and arrived on September 9,1853.

Sarah married Alonzo Bingham, 1854, in Utah. They were the parents of thirteen children. Six of her children died young and were buried in various locations as she and her husband pioneered different areas. They lived in East Weber, Springville, Salem, and Cache Valley, in Utah; the Bear Lake area of Idaho; and finally the Gila Valley of southern Arizona.

She assumed the responsibility of a bishop's wife and hosted dignitaries who came to visit for Conference, including Brigham Young. She also worked in the Bishop's Storehouse to churn cream into butter as it was donated as tithing.

Sarah died in Arizona, 1906.
