Eva Theona York Johnson

Eva Theona York Johnson was the oldest child of Adelbert and Esther Downs York, born on January 3, 1900, at Lindon, Utah. Her early schooling began at Sharon Elementary school, and after she graduated from the eighth grade and some years at Pleasant Grove High School, she began working In a store for George Cullimore in Orem, until she met, courted and then married Harold Charles Johnson on November 16, 1917, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Harold and Eva spent the early years of their marriage in Orem where their first two sons, Earl and Leo, were born.

Employment and changing of occupations kept them on the move for the next several years. During this period three daughters, Berniece, LaRue, and Arva, and another son, Sterling, were added to the family.

In 1935, Harold built a basement home on a corner of Eva's father's property in Orem and it was here the last three children, Annabeth, Glade and Byron were born. Earl, Leo and Berniece were married while they were residing at this home and then with the outbreak of World War II, Earl, Leo and Sterling went into the military service.

In 1943, the family remaining at home moved to Jerome, Idaho, where they resided until the time of Harold's death in 1970, shortly after their 53rd wedding anniversary. Eva then sold their home in Jerome and moved back to Orem where she has since resided.

Eva has always had a strong and living testimony of the gospel and a deep and abiding faith that has been evident throughout her life. She has held many positions in the auxiliaries of the church but has always had a special place in her heart for the Relief Society in which she spent many years serving her Father in Heaven in that organization both on a Ward and Stake level.

Eva's most cherished role in life, however, was that of a long and faithful companion to her husband as well as a devoted and loving mother to her children.

The greatest joys derived in her life were the hours she spent in raising and caring for her large family. She was a very industrious person and her hands were never idle from early morning until late at night. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed the hours she spent in her kitchen preparing meals for her family.

Her children remember her most for her sweet, soft spoken manner and her loving and understanding quidance in their lives. Her quick Wit and sense of humor, were also a constant joy to her family and many friends.

Eva Theona York Johnson passed away at the home of her oldest daughter on February 2, 1976. She leaves a posterity of 6 children, 28 grandchildren, 28 great grand-children and 1 great-great grandchild. (3 children have preceded her in death).

What greater joy could there be in life than to know that you had served your Father in Heaven well and had fulfilled your life's role as wife and mother with great at love and devotion.
