Elizabeth Thompson

Elizabeth Thompson (Aunt Lizie Thompson) was a sister of Henry Thompson, and the youngest of 12 children in the family of Daniel and Lorenda. She never married and was a gifted school teacher. Her last teaching job was at South Washington Elementary school 1927-28 in Ogden, Utah. One other students was Don Buswell. Her voice gradually weakened to a whisper. After retiring she lived with Henry and wife Elizabeth for a time in their home on the south side of 27th street between Adams and Jefferson. Through the years she was included in so many family gatherings, holiday events and reunions. Many of Henry's grandchildren knew and loved Aunt Lizzie.

She lived in several apartment locations mostly between 23rd and 24th street and Adams to Monroe. For one year she and her sister Francis (Franty) lived together. Her last residence was in the high rise apartment building on Monroe Blvd. It was there we celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. She was a positive, happy, organized, religious and productive person. Merwin took care of her needs including plans for her older years. He designated his son Harold to replace him with that responsibility as Merwin became older himself. He and Aunt Lizie were only six years different in age. They were more like brother and sister than aunt and nephew. She fell and broke her hip so she lived in a care center for a year but was able to return to her apartment. She died in her 97th year in August 1976. She was buried in her beloved home town of Scipio.
