Archibald was baptized a member of the Church at the age of 11, not long after the baptism of his parents. Six months after his marriage to Isabella, they left Scotland for America.

After their arrival in Salt Lake, Archibald found work quarrying rocks in Red Butte Canyon for the foundation of the temple. The next fall, they joined his parents in American Fork.

He and his brothers worked at Camp Floyd making adobe bricks and helping construct the barracks. They made good money but felt they wanted more ground of their own, so they moved to a farm west of Ogden on the Weber River, later called West Weber.

Archibald was called on a mission to Great Britain in 1873. Upon his return after two years, he was a teacher and home missionary. He served a second mission to Great Britain in 1886-1887. Upon his return, he served three months at the territorial prison for polygamy.

Archibald made his living in agriculture, horticulture and livestock. He was a member of the school board, Justice of the Peace, juror, census taker, county appraiser, and water master. He was on the Hooper Irrigation Board of Directors. He contracted to construct several miles of grade and do rock work on the Central Pacific Line. He served in the Legislature.

He loved genealogical research work and kept detailed records of his work. He died of apoplexy.
