Thomas came to Utah with his parents in 1855, after they were converted to the Church. They settled on a farm in Slaterville, Weber, Utah. Thomas was a member of the territorial Militia during the Utah War. He served in Echo Canyon and in Ogden when the people went south.

Thomas was an energetic and ambitious man, helping build up the country as well as the church. In addition to farming, he raised cattle, sheep and fine horses. He organized the first dairy in Weber County. He had several large properties around the country. He helped improve irrigation, was constable of Weber Count and a trustee of the county schools.

He was a devout member of the church, holding various positions. In 1886 he returned to England on a mission. He died from cancer of the stomach in 1907.
