Henry Legrand King

Henry LeGrand King was a farm boy, born and reared in Farmington, Davis County, Utah. He was born March 19, 1888. He was a regular church goer, advancing up through the priesthood to the office of seventy, which office he held at the time of his death. On 8 December 1908 at 20 years of age, he was called to the Western States Mission, where he served two years. After returning home he did much temple work.

He married Ella May Ogden, 19 April 1919 and on their third anniversary they were married in the Salt Lake Latter-day Saint Temple, 19 April 1922. They lived for a while on Second South near 12 East.

In 1928 the family moved to the Eighth Ward. Henry was actively engaged in temple work and was a block teacher for six years with a perfect record. He was also a home missionary. He and his wife filled a six months mission to the Salt Lake Temple. He was very well read in the scriptures and church works

In 1935, Henry moved his family to a small half acre farm in South Salt Lake: Southgate Ward. Here he combined his love of farming by working his small acreage. But with a full time job on the railroad, Henry's health broke and he was forced to retire.

In 1941, the family still at home, (Grant was in the Service and Merriam was married) moved to Phoenix, Arizona, hoping the warmer climate would be good for him. It was for a while. He lived long enough to see all of his children married. on March 8, 1947, his heart gave way.

Grant was taken prisoner of war by the Japanese in the Philippine Islands. He was held 40 months.
