WEST HAVEN - Merlin was born August 6th, 1923 in Wilson, Utah, son of Erastus and Hilda Bonnerud Bingham. He died at home in West Haven, Utah, on Monday April 18, 2005 after a lengthy illness.

Merlin was raised in Wilson, Utah, graduated from Weber High School in 1941, and attended Weber State College. On October 28th, 1943 he married Arlene Ritchie in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Merlin enjoyed serving in numerous church callings; High Priest, Elders Presidency, Ward Sunday School Superintendent, and in the Stake Sunday School Presidency.

He was a member of the Ogden and Provo Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Weber County Cancer Crusade, and Retail Merchants chairman. Merlin was in the retail jewelry business for 27 years, during which time he managed Schubach Jewelry in Provo, and co-owned Bennett Jewelry in Ogden. In 1966 Merlin and Arlene moved to Houston, Texas for 20 years, where he worked as factory representative for a prominent jewelry manufacturing company. Merlin always enjoyed repairing and making jewelry, working at his farm, and gardening.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters, Norman B. Bingham, Claud Bingham, Vera DeWit, Elva Elliott, and Edna Parke. He is survived by his wife Arlene, his daughter Lynette, son Roger, and grandson Tyler, whom he loved dearly
