Rodney O. Cole

Rodney O. Cole

WHITNEY, Idaho - Rodney Ottis Cole (Ronnie), 62, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 20, 2005, in his favorite chair.

He was born Dec. 20, 1942, the first child of Ottis L. and Mildred Poole Cole. After high school he served an honorable mission for his Heavenly Father in the Southern States from February 1962 to February 1964. After his mission he married his sweetheart, Linda Gittins, from Smithfield, Utah. Together they have five children: three sons and two daughters.

Rodney was raised on the family farm in Whitney. He attended Whitney Elementary School and was a graduate of Preston High School. Ron often spoke of his school and ward friends and the many hours they enjoyed together. Rodney has been a diligent farmer almost all of his life. Rodney and his brother, Lynn, have co-owned the family farm since 1973 and last, but not least, he spent many days in the open air working with his brother and sons. He loved spending time with his four grandchildren; they were indeed the lights of his life. Ron loved the church and he served valiantly in many callings through the years. He served as counselor in the bishopric, high priest group leader, as well as Sunday School president and various other positions within the scouting organization.

Ron was a very loving husband and dedicated father who enjoyed watching his children participate in all their many activities. He was always a pushover when it came to his daughters. They could get him to do just about anything. He would spend every waking moment to make sure his wife's every last whim was taken care of. Ron was very proud of all his children and each of their accomplishments and loved each one of them unconditionally.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Whitney; three sons, Russell (Sandy) Cole of Brigham City, Utah, Robert (Sharee) Cole of Whitney and Ryan Cole of Brigham City; two daughters, Lisa (Gene) Porter of Portland, Ore., and Lori (Kyle) Kelly of Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren, Forrest, Madison, Christian and Jordan; his mother, Mildred Cole of Preston; brothers, Lynn, Lee, Keith and Clair; and sisters, Karen Smith, Shannon Housely and Evelyn Cole. They will all miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, at the Whitney Ward Chapel with Bishop Greg Griffeth conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Webb Funeral Home, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church in Whitney. Interment will be in the Whitney Cemetery.
