WEST WEBER - George Dee McFarland, 82, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2004.

He was born April 23, 1921, the son of Thomas Archibald and Charlotte Irene Weatherston McFarland.

He married Virginia Stuart on October 23, 1940 in Ogden, UT. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber Academy.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many positions including Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Gospel Doctrine instructor and served on the High Council of the North Weber Stake for 13 years.

Our father was a successful fifth generation dairy farmer and lifelong resident of West Weber, where he and our mother raised their family of seven children. He served as PTA President of West Weber Elementary School, President of the West Weber Farm Bureau, President of the Weber College Young Farmers organization, receiving various awards for farm improvement and home beautification and was voted Weber County Young Farmer of the Year. He served in the American Dairy Association as President of the Weber County Chapter, Vice President of the Utah ADA, and a member of the National Board of Directors.

Dad and mom started building apartments in 1969. They enjoyed working together in that business for many years. Dad loved the outdoors and spent many hours training and racing quarter horses and was a member of the Wasatch Cutter Racing Association. He enjoyed spending time with his children as they competed in Jr. Posse. He loved to golf and spent many winters in St. George, and was proud to get a hole in one at Royal Greens Golf Course.

Our parents lives were centered around their children and grandchildren, having fun water skiing, riding four wheelers at the Bear Lake cabin or snowmobiles in the fields, riding horses, or participating in the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot down on the farm. His grandchildren have very fond memories of Grandpa Mac. We will all miss him very much.

Surviving are his wife Virginia, and children, Joan (Thane) Hales, Marlene (John) Swan, Deon (Terri) McFarland, Layne (Laura) McFarland, Jill (Mark) Hancock, and Mark (Lisa) McFarland, 34 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Carolyn (Joseph) Arave.

He was preceded in death by his son, Val Dee (married to Jan Champneys), and his brothers, Glen, Vern and Virgil.
