OGDEN - Afton Bingham Bateman, 88, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 from complications of pneumonia. She was born August 16, 1915, in Benjamin, Utah to John Henry and Hilda Nielsen Bingham.

She graduated from Spanish Fork High School where she was cast as the lead in the school play all three years. She attended Brigham Young University.

She married Horald Morgan Bateman in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1935. She moved to Ogden with her husband in 1937. She enjoyed being mother to her five children, and had wonderful friends. She enjoyed playing bridge her whole life.

Afton was a member of the Highland Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She served in many church callings such as Ward Primary President, Relief Society teacher, visiting teacher and Ogden Temple patron.

Surviving are two sons, John M. (Gayle) Bateman, Boise, Idaho; Robert L. (Nadine) Bateman, Ogden; two daughters, Jill (Joel) Dunn, Tooele, Utah; Debra Bateman, Ogden; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by brother, Ervin (Colleen) Bingham, Denver, Colorado; sister-in-laws, Doramae Bingham, Spanish Fork and Shirley Bingham, Orem.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horald Morgan Bateman; daughter, Tina Bateman Glass; granddaughter, Tiffany Glass; sisters, Klara Bingham Snyder, Hope Bingham Boyer and brothers John, Joseph, Cleve and Eugene Bingham.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday, November 28, 2003 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at Leavitt's Mortuary.
