Death Takes Prominent County Man

PLAIN CITY&emdash;Merwin Thompson, 90, of 4820 W, 1500 N., died Monday afternoon at the Mckay Dee Hospital of causes incident to age.

Mr. Thompson was born Nov. 1,188S, in Scipio, Utah, a son of Henry Bronson and Elizabeth Yates Thompson.

On Oct 20 1909 he was married to Martha Hansen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died in 1963. In December of 1963 he was married to Ruby Almquist in in 1964. He was married to Lavina Telford on June 6,1968, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He came to Ogden in 1904 and in 1907 moved to Plain City. He was instrumental in organizing the Pioneer Land Irrigation Co. the National Farm Loan Association, Weber County Farm Bureau, Plain City Dairy Days and Plain City Lions Club. He organized the Bear River Mutual Fire Insurance Co. in Weber County.

He was a high priest in the Plain City 3rd LDS Ward and held several ward leadership positions.

Surviving are his widow of Plain City, two sons and one daughter, Harold M. Thompson, Warren, Norman M. Thompson, Burley, Idaho- Mrs. Don A. (LauRene) Buswell North Ogden; 25 grandchildren- 67 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Gordon F. Thompson, Sterling D. Thompson, both of Plain City Mrs. Ralph (Ethel) Taylor Gladstone, Ore.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Plain City 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop Kent Calvert officiating.

Friends may call at the Chapel of Flowers Mortuary in Ogden Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the ward chapel Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Interment in the Plain City Cemetery.
