John Ager Compton

MORGAN - John Ager Compton, 98, passed away at his home, Saturday, 1995.

John was born July 19, 1896 in Morgan, a son of George and Caroline Ager Compton. He married Annie Rogers Sept, 1, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away Dec. 15, 1976.

He was a lifelong resident of Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School in 1916. He was a WWI Veteran. He was a farmer and served as City Clerk and Recorder, he was a City Councilman, and also Water Master for the Welch Ditch and Chairman of the Flood Control Committee for East Canyon Creek. In 1958 he was elected Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee for Morgan County.

Mr. Compton was a High Priest in the Morgan 3rd LDS Ward. He had served in many church positions and had been Ward Clerk of the Morgan Ward for 24 years; for part of this time he was also a Bishop's Counselor.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, collecting rocks, and lapidary work.

Surviving are three daughters, Rosella Compton, Morgan; LouJean (Bradley H.) Paul, Woods Cross; Cherril (Neil) Grose, Morgan; six grand-children, Bradley, Colleen, John and Richard Paul; Landon and Kendall Grose; two sisters, Rose Tribe and Leone Christensen.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan 31, 1 p.m. at the Morgan Stake Center, 355 North 700 East with Bishop Dale Porter, officiating Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan. Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Internment in the South Morgan Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the VFW Honorguard.
